Imagining the British.
- Authors
Bright, Jon
- Abstract
In this article, the author explores the renewal of the idea of Britishness by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The author begins with the function of nationalism under the Britishness perspective. He then explores the promotion of nationalism by Brown and the criticism that it seemed like liberalism. In addition, the author indicates that there are two things that Brown should be wary of. The first is the implications of an internationalist liberal identity. The second is the way Brown is trying to bring about his renewal of the idea of Britishness.
