- Title
Personalized antibiotic dosing for the critically ill.
- Authors
Roberts, Jason A.; Roger, Claire; De Waele, Jan J.
- Abstract
The article examines some of the data that associate antibiotic exposure with clinical benefit, or toxicity. It presents the challenges to effective treatment and recommends a paradigm for a more ppersonalizedapproach to treatment that has a higher likelihood of achieving therapeutic antibiotic exposures. It adds that changes in the volume of distribution of hydrophilic antibiotics like beta-lactams, aminoglycosides and glycopeptides can also affect the magnitude of dose required.
