The article discusses the slave trade in Richmond, Virginia, and New Orleans, Louisiana, during the 19th century. It discusses the painting "Slaves Waiting for Sale, Richmond, Virginia," by English artist Eyre Crowe and his experiences in Richmond, the tobacco industry in Richmond, and the slave-trading district in Richmond. It also examines the significance of New Orleans as a slave-trading center, the cultural and economic differences between New Orleans and Richmond, and slave auctions in New Orleans.
