- Abstract
The article discusses the financial dynamics affecting biotechnology firms in light of the economic downturn. It comments on evolving financial constraints on venture capital (VC) firms and limited-partner investors and associated pressures on existing and start-up biotech firms. The article recognizes the backdrop of governmental health-care reform that the author says will place even more downward business and financial pressure on the pharmaceutical industry. The author articulates the long odds that start-up biotech firms face for successfully developing and bringing a pharmaceutical drug to market.
