- Abstract
Apanteles galleriae (Wilkinson) is a solitary endoparasitoid parasitizing Galleria mellonella (Linnaeus) and Achroia grisella (Fabricius) in hives. The objective of this study is to determine different strategies adopted by the parasitoid to increase its rate of parasitism. Debris hives were reared and caterpillars of G. mellonella and A. grisella were exposed to A. galleriae. Obtained results showed that A. galleriae emerged nine days earlier than the moths. A. galleriae adults did not emerge all at once. They emerged throughout a staggering time of 21-26 days. Recorded sex ratios (male: female) were 10: 8, 2: 4 and 4: 14. Through these results, it can be concluded that A. galleriae is adapted to parasitize G. mellonella and A. grisella.
