- Abstract
The present paper informs about a study carried out at Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Argentina, by teacher-researchers. The study consisted of the design and application of a criterion-referenced test of reading comprehension in English. The objectives of the project were: to investigate the level of reading comprehension achieved by students who finish their studies in secondary local schools; to offer the local education system external and reliable information about their students' level of performance in reading comprehension in English; and to develop the methodological abilities of the researchers involved in terms of census evaluation of learning outcomes. The project is presented, and the design and implementation of the tests is discussed, together with the results. The analysis of the results aims at contributing to the reflection on the need to take into account the characteristics of local contexts in terms of English teaching and evaluation.
