- Title
CLOISTER CONTESTED: PERICULOSO AS AUTHORITY IN LATE MEDIEVAL CONSILIA.
- Authors
MAKOWSKI, ELIZABETH
- Abstract
This article discusses the practical impact of Periculoso, a papal decretal of Pope Boniface VIII issued in 1298, as an authority on medieval nuns and the rights and duties which has resulted from their status as cloistered religious women. Academic commentators argued that it is the right of papacy to implement a stricter life for reluctant nuns. Periculoso strictly regulated the exit and entry of nuns into monastic precincts.
