- Abstract
The article discusses the central concepts of mental disorders, and the common federal and state justifications for criminal sanctions of the mentally ill in the U.S. It presents a historical survey of the juvenile justice system to address the failure of the government to achieve its stated goals. Furthermore, it explores the benefits and drawbacks of using the juvenile justice system in the rehabilitation and treatment of people with mental disorders.
