- Abstract
The article discusses the connection between Mennonite peacebuilding and human rights advocacy and the roots of the protection of human rights as advanced by early 16th century Anabaptist leaders. It examines the Mennonite definition of human rights, Anabaptist themes of free will and religious volantarism, anti-clericalism, and the work of Anabaptist leaders such as Balthasar Hubmaier, Hans Denck, and Kilian Aurbacher. It also discusses the significance of the German Peasants' War to Anabaptist teachings on human rights.
