- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the political policy of the People's Republic of China towards its athletes competing in international competitions. In an effort to promote Chinese communism in post-colonial nations in Asia and Africa, it became involved in the 1963 Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO), held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Topics considered include post-World War II geopolitical changes, shifts in Sino-Soviet relations from the 1950s to the 1960s, politics and sports, and Chinese propaganda.
