- Authors
Murray, Alex
- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of Richmond, New South Wales. The author states that the industry and the working-class community have been dominant characteristics in Richmond's development. The Richmond Hill area was originally settled by gentry in 1840s as a country retreat. The article also discusses the working class identity of Richmond and gentrification. The author explains that gentrification began in the suburb as a vanguard trickle in the 1970s but has turned into an avalanche at the turn of the 21st century.
