- Title
Magnetic sensors: Nanoparticles detect infection.
- Authors
McNally, Alan
- Abstract
The article offers information regarding the use of nanoparticles to detect bacterial species on medical specimens. It states that nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) device can be combined with magnetic nanoparticles and nucleic acid probes for rapid detection of infectious agents in specimens. It mentions that the NMR device can find single counts of cells in a 10-ml samples of blood and can eventually diagnose some fatal infections like septicaemia.
