- Abstract
Introduction: Peritonsillar abscess is common sequelae of acute tonsillitis. Bilateral peritonsillar abscess is a rare variant, which pose as a diagnostic challenge due to its variable presentation. Complications of peritonsillar abscesses are well known but rarely occur. Case Description: We report of a young lady who presented with clinical features of unilateral peritonsillar abscess, but was ultimately diagnosed with the bilateral variant. The patient subsequently deteriorated and the disease was complicated by development of bilateral parapharyngeal abscess, cavernous sinus thrombosis and cerebellar abscess.
