- Title
SOME GREAT TRUSTS IN THE UNITED STATES.
- Abstract
The article discusses the history of several trusts, bequests, and endowments in the United States. French American philanthropist and banker Stephen Girard, founder of Girard College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, bequeathed large portions of his estate to the cities of New Orleans, Louisiana and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for social programs and endowments. The endowment created by American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin is known as the Benjamin Franklin Funds and was established to help finance the businesses of married artisans in Boston, Massachusetts and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The establishment of Harvard College and the history of state savings banks are also discussed.
