- Abstract
The algebra, discipline that was born as a high variation (Art Major) or complement of arithmetic, was developed by Greeks and other early civilizations. However, it believes that its implementation and development in the West comes from the book by Muhammad ibn Mūsa al-Khwārizmī (Baghdad, ca 780 - ¿? 850), entitled Kitab al-Mukhtasar al-jabr fīhisāb w'almuqābala (ca. 825), which highlight two Latin translations: those made by Robert of Chester and Gerard of Cremona. The objective of this work is an analysis of the Latin translation of some Arabisms, presents in al-Khwārizmī's work, referring to the different powers of the unknown and its introduction, diffusion and vernacularization, from the Middle Ages to the Spanish Renaissance, in the most important mathematical treatises of the 16th century, through which we witness the establishment of a technical algebra terminology in Spanish.
