- Abstract
In the article "Engineering Stem Cell Fate Controlling Biomaterials to Develop Muscle Connective Tissue Layered Myofibers," Sungsu Park, Su Ryon Shin, and their colleagues present a new method for bioengineering muscle connective tissue-layered myofibers using human-induced pluripotent stem cells. By controlling the activities of transforming growth factor-beta 1 and its inhibitor, the researchers were able to co-differentiate muscle connective tissue fibroblasts and myofibers within a single microscale construct. This development has potential applications in tissue engineering.
