- Title
Seven Rules Of Engagement: What's Most Important to Know About Motivation to Read.
- Authors
Gambrell, Linda B.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of student motivation in literacy learning. According to the author, student motivation and engagement with reading has great significance for reading achievement and should be supported by such practices as making instruction activities relevant to students' lives, providing access to a wide range of reading materials, and providing time for sustained reading. It is suggested that social interactions surrounding texts and sincere teacher praise are also important motivators. Other topics include student reading journals, the role of choice in student motivation, and classroom libraries.
