- Abstract
This essay explores the similarities of the fable "Mr. Skelmersdale in Fairyland," by H. G. Wells to Washington Irving's American tale, "Rip Van Winkle." Topics covered include the same type of elemental supernaturalism in both works, a wealth of personality traits shared by the two title characters, and the fondness by both protagonists of idleness and daydreaming.
