- Abstract
The author comments on the article "Genetically Modified Crops: Risks and Promise," by Gordon Conway. Because of the possible ecosystem effects associated with genetically modified organisms (GMO), he believes that a systematic approach to ecosystem risk assessment is needed. He thinks that ecologists and economists should participate in helping to characterize and quantify these risks, and conservationists should seek to identify ways in which GMO technology could help conserve biodiversity.
