- Title
Spur, A New Solution to Exeter Book Riddle 62.
- Authors
Bitterli, Dieter
- Abstract
The article examines the possibility that a sexual reference in "Riddle 62" in the tenth century treatise "The Exeter Book" of Old English verse might involve a spur, and it mentions other double entendres and mentions of sexual acts and organs in the book. According to the article, most modern critics claim that "Riddle 62" refers to a craftsman's boring tool or a fire-stoking poker. It states that the Old English word for a spur was spura or spora.
