- Authors
CHALLINOR, JENNIE
- Abstract
The article discusses the textual sources used by the 17th century English playwright Thomas Shadwell in depicting the diseased character of Crazy, alternatively named Oldpox, in the 1670 play "The Humorists." Topics addressed include mention of Shadwell's particular use of specific medical terminology, how the obscurity of such terms can help identify Shadwell's source documents, and a list of probable medical reference books used.
