- Authors
HYDE, JENNI
- Abstract
The article discusses the identification of the Ladie Marques referenced in the ballad "A proper new balad in praise of my Ladie Marques, Whose death is bewailed, To the tune of New lusty gallant" by William Elderton, published in 1569. Topics include reasons why the ballad does not refer to marquess Anne Boleyn, the relation of the poem to English Queen Elizabeth I, and the possibility that the ballad refers to marquess of Northampton, England Elizabeth Parr.
