- Authors
TARANTINO, GIOVANNI
- Abstract
The article presents literary criticism of the book "A Letter of Consolation and counsel to the Good People of England, occasioned by the late earthquake" by Thomas Gordon. Particular focus is given to the book's historical context. It was written in response to popular fears surrounding a series of earthquakes that hit London, England in 1750 and were explained by some commentators as God's retribution for the publication of non-religious books. Gordon's text emphasized freedom of the press.
