- Title
PETRUCHIO'S SOUD.
- Authors
Levin, Richard
- Abstract
The author proposes that the changes made by editors in Petruchio's speech in "The Taming of the Shrew," IV.i is incorrect. The author feels that the line that reads "Soud, soud, soud, soud." in "The First Folio of Shakespeare: The Norton Facsimile," is actually William Shakespeare's attempts to give Petruchio a way to make inarticulate noises of condemnation as opposed to a typographic error. The noise would be similar to today's written "harrumph."
