- Authors

- Abstract
The author in this article states that the layman can only marvel at modern Shakespeare methodology, which is devoted to deducing historical fact from literary opinion. He proposes the opposite approach and take the crucial problem of counterpart plays. Given two texts so tightly intertwined that one must be a reworking of the other, which came first, and who wrote what and when? With the book King John for example, confusion reigns, according to him. Two typical antagonists are Ernst Honigmann and Robert Smallwood, who have clashed in head-on contradiction for over a decade.
