- Abstract
The article compares the philosophies of medieval literature scholars Eugene Vinaver and Eugene Vance regarding the cultural aspects of medieval romance poetry. Medieval authors such as Chrétien de Troyes and French chansons de geste such as "Chanson de Roland" are discussed, as well as Chrétien's romance "Yvain ou le chevalier au lion" and art historian Erwin Panofsky. Medieval art, architecture, and philosophy are discussed, as well as biblical references in literature.
