- Abstract
This paper analyzes the social trajectory and the early professional experience of a young teacher of French coming from a lower middle class background. It looks at how the specific relationship between an individual trajectory and the experience of an institution is negotiated. It follows a biographical path that sheds light on the changing relationship of the teacher to her social and her professional identity, and on the multiple accommodations aiming at coping on a daily basis with students alienated from school culture. This specific case study also makes it possible to explore the apparent paradox of a "daughter of the democratization of schooling" having to teach the "children of the democratization of schooling."
