- Title
THE CHANGING BARGAINING STRUCTURE IN CONSTRUCTION: WIDE-AREA AND MULTICRAFT BARGAINING.
- Authors
Hartman, Paul T.; Franke, Walter H.
- Abstract
The article presents findings of a study on the changes in the bargaining structure of the construction industry in the U.S. Some of the major reasons for changes in the bargaining structure include the interests of all parties in promoting labor relations stability and more moderate outcomes in bargaining. A substantial number of local unions are exploring or expecting more bargaining unit changes involving their locals. The attempts of sample cities to establish multicraft agreements have promoted closer labor management cooperation and greater uniformity in contract provisions. A fraction of the building trades unions have constitutional provisions empowering the national president and executive board to broaden the geographical coverage and increase the size of bargaining units.
