- Abstract
The article discusses the history on the collection and acquisition of an Apulian Gnathia askos by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), an art museum in Richmond, from antiquities dealer Fritz Bürki in 1980. The illicit trading of antiquities, the conviction of antiquities dealer Giacomo Medici for trafficking antiquities and the preservation of the archaeological context of the askos are also outlined.
