The article analyzes the anomalous rhyme sequences in the poem "Song of Roland" to extend further knowledge of the poem's history. It is believed that the poem is based on an assonaced text. The analysis reveals that the initial choice of rhyme was based on a visual error rather than on a systematic attempt and it appears that the maker of the rhymes plunged into the laisse heedlessly.
