- Abstract
The article explores the historical definition of genocide and the population decline of Native Americans following contact with European settlers. The author reflects on the concept of genocidal intent in relation to massacres, state-sponsored body-part bounties, and mass death in government detention. Emphasis is given to the decline and eradication of the Pequot Indians of Connecticut and the Yuki Indians of California.
