- Abstract
The article discusses the need for the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) to renew its focus on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in light of the increasing spread of infectious diseases and climate change. The US FDA's response to NTDs has been limited in scope and prominence, despite the fact that nearly 1.65 billion people worldwide require treatment for NTDs. The article suggests that the US FDA should update its policies and programs related to NTDs, hold hearings or workshops on the topic, and form a working group comprised of various US federal agencies to enhance research and product development for NTDs.
