- Abstract
The subject of the study is related to prepare a program of instruction to enable the implementation of active learning activities, to practice the implementation of such a program with science teachers, and then to evaluate its effectiveness. The activities were structured in a manner appropriate to the content of 5th and 6th grade science courses and included working in small groups. This innovative application of instruction designed for science teachers working in the second tier of the primary schools was implemented in different regions of Turkey with a group of 40 teachers (20 men and 20 women) in the province of İzmir over the course of a week. The data for the study were collected with a Questionnaire, Structured Interview Forms + Sound Recordings and Observations. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the needs of the Science Teachers to develop and renew their teaching methods were largely met, both from a professional and a personal point of view.
