- Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic affected virtually every aspect of life in communities around the world, including parenting, education, and mental health. Children younger than 6 years old--for whom so much of their life has occurred during the pandemic--may have missed critical windows in social, emotional, and language development. Adults have struggled to maintain supportive and positive relationships with the children in their charge. Some young children lost important relationships; for others, these relationships were damaged or otherwise negatively affected. This article ties the residual effects of COVID-19 to the need to reestablish those very important relational connections for young children and parents, caregivers, and teachers through Positive Discipline parenting and classroom management programs based on the teaching of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs. Positive Discipline strategies are designed to provide the essential components of healthy, positive connections all children so desperately need for healthy development.
