The authors assess the emerging role of simulation technology in medical education. Topics discussed include the definition of simulation, the ability of simulation to meet the needs of a shifting educational paradigm, and the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine's provision of evidence-based simulation and clinical training opportunities through the efforts of the Parry Center for Clinical Skills and Simulation.
