- Title
Between Rejection and Affinity -Slovene-German Relations on the Periphery of the Habsburg Monarchy.
- Authors
Verginella, Marta
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between Germany and Slovenia during the 19th and 20th centuries. According to the author, Slovene attitudes towards German politics, society, and culture during this period were more complex than historians and other commentators have acknowledged. It is suggested that Slovene historical memory has been dominated by fears of Germanization which have led historians to ignore anti-German reactions among Slovenians and German influences on Slovenian culture. Other topics include Germans living in Slovenia, the Lower Styria region of Slovenia, and the Habsburg monarchy.
