- Authors
Coonin, Arnold Victor
- Abstract
The article offers information on the works of Vittorio Ghiberti, the son of Italian artist Lorenzo, on the frame of the south door of the Baptistery of San Giovanni in 1543 in Florence, Italy. It states that when the then 75-year-old Lorenzo was awarded by the Camimala Guild to build the frame together with Vittorio, they were aware that only Vittorio may finish the frame. According to Bartolomeo Fazio, he considered Lorenzo and Vittorio as famous sculptors. The south frame was designed with decorative elements that contain classical beads and reel moulding, which were not found in Lorenzo's frames in the north door. The frame also designed with images of three youths and two human heads.
