- Abstract
The authors reflect on the changes in the NHS since its inception in 1948 and its impact on surgeons and surgery. They state that the NHS has evolved for the betterment of the health of people and comment on the possibility of surgeons working as part of multidisciplinary teams in the near future. The authors also discuss the NHS emphasis on training and skills necessary for surgery, surgical safety and discipline.
