- Abstract
In the relevant literature there is hardly any indication of the time periods in which discharge recommendations from treating teams in forensic psychiatric hospitals are converted into actual discharges. The present study dealt with the relationship between discharge recommendations by the treating teams and actual discharges, as well as with possible influencing factors which, if the prognosis is positive, could be related to a longer stay. Based on the forensic documentation of Baden-Württemberg (FoDoBa), n = 233 patients with psychosis treated according to section 63 of the German Penal Code were examined. A substantial proportion of the patients were not discharged within six months after a positive prognosis, despite the discharge recommendation. In the analysis of the type of offenses, special incidents during treatment, the availability of external expert reports and follow-up aftercare, there were - with one exception - no differences between the patients who were discharged quickly after a good prognosis and those in whom the placement lasted longer. The exception: In the cases in which discharge did not take place for a longer period of time despite a positive prognosis, more external expert reports were documented.
