- Abstract
(Social) rehabilitation serves the protection of the general public in penal institutions and in forensic psychiatric hospitals. For this reason, criminal prognostic examinations are supposed to outline potential measures concerning social rehabilitation suitable to control or reduce the risk of relapse into delinquency, this being the legal requirement for the potential release of inmates. Inmates who were repeatedly examined in the Department of Forensic Psychiatry of Munich University between 2006 and 2016 (N = 86) regarding their criminal risk were also extensively interviewed from a social scientific perspective. On the basis of these interviews, realization of individual recommendations for (social) rehabilitation outlined in the corresponding forensic-psychiatric risk assessments was reviewed. Based on case studies by this workshop report, the heterogeneity of rehabilitation attempts becomes apparent. Furthermore, a sociological view is formed on the extent to which legal requirements concerning social rehabilitation were met in practice.
