- Title
Cinematic Incorporation: Literature in My Life Without Me (2003).
- Authors
Dillon, Sarah
- Abstract
The article critiques the film "My Life Without Me," directed by Isabel Coixet and starring Sarah Polley, loosely based on the title short story of Nanci Kincaid's collection "Pretending the Bed Is a Raft." Topics discussed include how philosopher Jacques Derrida's idea of incorporation's role in mourning shows the film's relationship to Kincaid's short story and literature, the narrative effects of the protagonist's decision, and literary theorist Leo Bersani's concept of personal intimacy.
