- Abstract
The article explains why dendritic cells (DC) are the tolerogenic cells of choice to restore immune tolerance in Type 1 diabetes as part of cellular immunotherapy. Clinical considerations and challenges relating to DC therapy are presented, along with plans to address them, taking into account lessons learned from animal models such as non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse. The efficacy and safety of DC therapy, and the tolerogenic function of DCs with combination therapies are explored.
