- Abstract
The United Nations General Assembly recently voted to approve a Cuban resolution calling for an end to the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba. The resolution received overwhelming support, with 187 nations voting in favor, two against (the United States and Israel), and Ukraine abstaining. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel hailed the vote as a victory for the Cuban people and their Revolution. The U.S. blockade, which began in 1962, has had a significant impact on Cuba's economy, with losses totaling billions of dollars. The blockade has resulted in shortages of essential goods and services, including healthcare supplies and educational materials. The article suggests that lifting the blockade could alleviate the desperate living conditions that drive people to emigrate from Cuba.
