- Authors
PHILLIPS, JAMES
- Abstract
At 8:45, the first preliminary tally puts the opposition Libre Party candidate, Xiomara Castro, well ahead of National Party candidate Asfura. JANUARY 7, 2022 I was in Honduras from November 17 to December 13. In a public announcement, incumbent president Hernandez finally congratulates Castro, conceding the end of twelve years of National Party rule that had begun with a coup d'etat in 2009 in which Hernandez himself played a major part-a coup that is widely believed to have had U.S. backing.
