The article profiles John Moore, an 18th century Scottish physician who seized the opportunity to move from medical practice in Glasgow to celebrity as a social observer and novelist. Details related to Moore's early life, career development as a physician and his literary life are reviewed. His writings were "Medical Sketches," "A Journal of a Residence in France From the Beginning of August to the Middle of December 1972," and "View of the Cause and Progress of the French Revolution."
