The article examines developments in functional and structural research on DNA repair pathways. Molecular interactions among nucleotide excision repair (NER) factors are discussed. The functions of mismatch repair (MMR) proteins are described. A specific example of DNA damage signaling in the ataxia telangiectasia mutated protein, which is a consequence of DNA injury, is discussed.
