- Abstract
In literature, pentacles with five lines, which are formed by adding three lines in front of each couplet of a poem, are called takhmīs. Takhmīs is mostly done on the poem of another poet, but there are also poets who have takhmīs on their own poetry. In order for a takhmīs to gain value, the original couplet and the added verses must be fused in terms of meaning and sound. Therefore, the poet should be meticulous in adding two separate poems to each other and should capture the same style as the original poem. Takhmīs was born in Arabic literature, passed to Persian literature from there, and later took a place in Turkish literature. Compared to Arabic and Persian literatures, takhmīs has gained the most popularity in Turkish literature. As a matter of fact, takhmīs is the most used musammat type in Turkish literature. Many poets in Turkish literature wrote takhmīs on the poems of a previous or contemporary poet. In Turkish literature, as well as Turkish takhmīs, Arabic and Persian takhmīs were also written. The most famous poet who wrote Persian takhmīs in Turkish literature is Mehmed Emin Yumni Efendi. Yumni wrote Persian takhmīs for both Hafez-i Shirazi's Persian Diwan and Mawlana's Masnawî. The Persian takhmīs written by Yumni in Mawlana's Masnawî consists of 624 couplets in the first book of this work. Yumni created his work by adding three verses in the same measure and rhyme to each of the 624 couplets in Masnawî. In this work, which is uncertain when it was written, a simple and understandable language was used, and a semantic relationship was established between the verses. The name of the work was mentioned as "The takhmīs written by Yumni in the Masnawî book", 24 titles were written, and takhmīs were listed under these titles. While adding two texts together in the work in question, care was taken to ensure that they were compatible in terms of meaning, style, form and words, and that they merged and formed a whole. Yumni probably thought of writing takhmīs in all six notebooks of Masnawî, but for reasons we do not know, he only contented himself with the couplets in the introduction of the first notebook. The most important reasons why Yümnî wrote a takhmīs for Mesnevi must be his loyalty and respect to Mevlana, his desire to join the group of literature scholars, to receive blessings, and to be remembered with mercy. In this work, Yumni wrote takhmīs on the most important parts of Mawlana's Masnawî, such as "ney-name", "the sultan" and "the concubine", "the grocer" and "the parrot", and "the oppression of the Jewish sultan and his vizier". In this study, the Persian takhmīs written for Mawlana's Masnawî by Mehmed Emin Yumni Efendi, about which there is not much information before and no critical text has been published, will be discussed in detail for the first time, and some poems in the work will be translated into Turkish.
