The article discusses how Victorian poetry, visuality, race, and racialization overlap. It explores the connections between Victorian visual culture and antislavery poetry, considers the potential of visuality's relationship to poetry as a means of challenging conventional approaches in Victorian studies, and evaluates the significance of the racialized comparison between Hiram Powers' Greek Slave sculpture and Elizabeth Barrett Browning's sonnet.
