- Abstract
An essay is presented that offers poetry criticism regarding the use of illustrations and poetry in the periodical "Good Words" from 1860 to 1911 in light of the thought of philosopher Michel de Certeau. Poems analyzed include "Until her Death" by Frederick Sandys, the anonymous poem "Polly," and "Love in Death" by Dora Greenwell. The relation of everyday life to poetry according to the periodical's editors is noted.
