- Abstract
An essay is presented which explores the subject of gender identity of actors and characters in William Shakespeare's plays. Topics discussed include remarks from scholar Will Tosh regarding gender fluidity with regard to the 2017 Globe Theatre production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" the portrayal of gender fluidity and cross-dressing in Shakespearean performances, and comparison between transgender people and the cross-dressed characters of Shakespeare.
